drama review: toki wo kakeru shoujo

Hahaha, to be honest, I don't know what prompted me to watch this drama? I guess I wanted to see Kuroshima Yuina's acting, since I really liked her portrayal in Dokkun's drama, Gomen ne Seishun! but still not as much as I liked Mitsushima Hikari's portrayal of her role -- damn that teacher in the drama was badass, even though it was slightly problematic the way she fell for Dokkun but yah

Anyway, I wasn't initially planning on completing this series after watching the fourth episode, but since there were only five episodes in total I manage to power through the last episode LOL.

I think the entire show's just too... convenient? Of course, I wasn't expecting a very complicated time-travelling shiz explanation but the complete simplicity of time travel in this show was just... off-putting. No paradoxes? No slight shifts in the time line to cause implications in the present? I mean, seriously??? I keep telling myself not to be over critical and that they ONLY HAVE FIVE EPISODES but...

Okay, ignoring the altogether too-convenient time travel nonsense... Maybebecause I'd prefer her to end up with her bestie / childhood friend Goro-chan, which coloured my perception of the drama butI honestly wasn't convinced by the "love" between Mihane and Shohei (yes I finally learnt their names)? In the first place, can what they had between them be really termed as "love"? Shohei came from the future, and has no experience / knowledge in love (besides what he reads in his books) and, upon knowing that he is canexperience "love" in that era, he utilises the methods he read about to win over Mihane. He even alters her memory so that she would have a more favourable impression of him LOL AND I MEAN THAT LITERALLY.

And on the other hand, Mihane's perception of him was shaped by false memories + that scary moment when she thought that he might die at the Tanabata Matsuri + all his tactics might also have falsely convinced her that she loved Shohei. Okay, I watched it a while back so I can't really remember but those dreams in the classroom, which she had were representations of her subconscious yes? And in the dream when she and Shohei were together THE FIRST PERSON SHE SAW WAS GORO-CHAN WHO LATER MORPHED INTO SHOHEI RIGHT?

Okay, moving on...

Isn't Shohei too flat a character??? If I remember correctly, this character showed ZERO REMORSE when he asked Mihane out, even though he knew that Goro-chan liked her??? Okay I know that they're not real childhood friends but he should at least feel conflicted about doing this? And none of that "Is it okay for two guys to like the same girl?" nonsense HELLO DUDE YOU CAME FROM ANOTHER TIME BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND FEELINGS RIGHT??? Unless he was supposed to be conflicted but the actor didn't portray him that well... And another thing that irked me was that he was so happy about not being able to return to his time??? I get that you wanna stay with the girl that you love, BUT WHAT ABOUT YOUR KOUHAI? And don't you have family, friends in your own time??? He can just forget about them so easily? What about his ambitions? He has none?

And what about the fact that HE KNOWS he has a short life span, and his death will prolly cause Mihane a lot of anguish and suffering because after all he wasn't able to return to his time because of her???

Okay but props to the second lead for BEING SUCH AN EYECANDY and imo he was a better actor than Kikuchi Fuma. I think Yuina did a decent job but ah well, she's still young and has much to learn. How is she younger than me LOL

The last episode dwelled a bit too much on the other time traveller's story -- but I admit I was moved when the past him refused the photos but still felt an attraction to the restaurant owner AND WHEN THEY SHOWED THE SCENE IN THE RESTAURANT WITH ANOTHER "MII-KUN" I SIGHED. I really liked the Koi wo Shiranai Kimi e --> Natsu wo Shiranai Kimi e correlation I feel like that gave me some closure to the entire drama, together with Shige getting married LOL.

Shige is such a cutie, I think I'll watch more of his shows hehehe.
I can't remember what else I wanted to type so I'll end here lol. Ahahaha, it turned out to be more of a rant than a review. :x

SIGH I still have one more hour of timing to do and then typesetting and encoding...
